Living your best life means taking care of yourself. At the DailyShifts, there’s nothing we love more than unwinding at the end of a long week with a self-care Sunday routine.
Self-care can be defined as intentionally engaging in an activity that supports your mental/physical health. When we practice self-care, we feel energized and full. Contrary to popular belief, self-care is not overindulging in things that temporarily make you forget about your problems, leaving you feeling depleted and worse.
A self-care routine plays a vital role in our mental health and a life well-lived by reminding us that we are important and need nurturing. When we take care of ourselves, we have the energy and power to take care of others. Self-care is a way to balance the chaos and find a deeper connection within.
While we definitely encourage scheduling out your self-care, we’re definitely not treating self-care as another task that needs to be checked off our to-do list. Successful self-care should engage ritual but not rigidity by finding practices that work with your lifestyle and schedule.
We’ve compiled a list of our favorite self-care Sunday rituals to help expand your wellness routine and give yourself the extra love you deserve.
The stats are in and it’s time to take a break from your phone, computer, watch, etc. Challenge yourself to a tech break for the ultimate gift of self-care. Find some time, preferably an entire day, to turn off all your devices and simply be in whatever moment you’re in. We recommend fitting this ritual in at least once a month for optimal self-care satisfaction.
Self-care can be as simple as creating gratitude within. Cultivate a deeper sense of self-love by focusing your gratitude on yourself. Be grateful for your body, mind, and spirit and everything you do for you each day. Writing down three things you’re grateful for every day for 30 days is a great place to start this ritual.
Taking a bath is a great way to unwind and relax and many of us already use this modality. Add the element of self-care and your bath can suddenly become a place to connect deeper with yourself. Recharge with a soothing bath by including salts and oils, music, and lighting that helps you to feel peace within.
We previously introduced the adventure walk as a form of meditation, but what if the adventure walk could also be a form of self-care? Leave your phone behind and instead of discovering your outside world, focus on yourself. Pay yourself compliments and give yourself all the love you need. This ritual can be implemented daily and can be as short or as long as you feel fits.
Seems simple enough, right? Many of us are so attuned to a daily routine, we rarely ever stray from it. Give yourself a break once a month or even better, once a week, and skip the alarm. Plan it and enjoy the extra love you gave yourself with no pings of remorse or guilt.
While eating fresh fruits and vegetables is crucial to our overall well-being, treating yourself can be just as beneficial. This can be anything from breakfast in bed to getting your favorite pastry. The trick is finding balance in your body and your mind. Keep a positive narrative and remember, the words you speak become the house you live in, so make your words loving and positive.
Ever feel bad about yourself even when you have a great life? Social media is bad for mental health and has the tendency to make you feel like you aren’t doing enough. Go through your social media accounts and unfollow anyone who leaves you feeling less than enough about your own life and only follow accounts that bring value and joy to your life.
It’s been proven that clutter in your personal space can create clutter in your mind. Show yourself and your space some love and nurturing by finding a corner, drawer, or closet, big, medium, or small, and clean it out. Create organization and make space for something new.
Moving the body rearranges stagnant energy and cleanses your organs. Yoga is a great self-care ritual and the best part is, you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Bring awareness to your breath and create mindfulness during your personal yoga practice.
